Big update. Real impact.
The CIPC and the Information Regulator have finally done something every compliance-weary business owner and accountant will appreciate: they’ve teamed up to launch integrated compliance services on BizPortal. This isn’t just another update, it’s a practical shift that cuts out double-handling, reduces risk, and makes your life a little easier.

From now on, you can use BizPortal to:

  • Register your Information Officer (IO)

  • Submit PAIA Annual Reports

No extra portals, no duplication, and—most importantly—no client left non-compliant because the process was too confusing or time-consuming.

So what’s the big deal?
If you’ve ever tried walking a client through their POPIA or PAIA obligations, you’ll know how clunky the process has been. Previously, it required navigating separate systems, remembering multiple logins, or worse trying to explain why a business needed a PAIA report in the first place. Now, it’s built into the same platform your clients are already registered with: BizPortal.

Why this matters to Business Accountants in Practice

This is the kind of change that gives you a competitive edge. Your clients already expect you to keep them complaint and you probably do a lot of that work without charging for it. With this update, you can finally turn data compliance into something tangible, value-driven, and billable.

Here’s how you can leverage this:

  • Offer a compliance package that includes Information Officer registration, PAIA submission, and POPIA policy drafting

  • Use BizPortal live during a meeting or Zoom call to register or file while your client watches—you look like a pro, they feel relieved

  • Set up annual check-ins to manage recurring PAIA submissions, building advisory revenue into your annual client relationship

  • Include these services in engagement letters—position it as essential, not optional

Bonus: You’re protecting your practice too

It’s not just about helping clients. Non-compliance has teeth now—and fines, audits, and reputational damage can affect your firm if you’re managing a client portfolio with gaps. With this tool, it’s easier to close those gaps before they become problems.

How it works

  • Log in to BizPortal

  • Navigate to “Services

  • Click on “Information Regulator Services

  • You’ll see both options: register the Information Officer and submit the PAIA report

  • Done. And yes, it generates proof of submission

Who needs to comply?
Let’s not forget—every public and private body must comply with POPIA and PAIA unless explicitly exempt. If your client is a registered entity with the CIPC, they likely need:

  • A designated Information Officer (usually the CEO, MD, or equivalent)

  • An up-to-date PAIA Manual

  • Annual PAIA report submissions (especially for private companies with 50+ employees or high PI Scores)

Now you’ve got a single place to manage all three—and a legitimate reason to speak to clients about upping their compliance game.

This isn’t red tape—it’s a revenue stream

CIBA members often tell us they struggle to find ways to charge more without offering “more.” This is your “more.” It’s tangible, necessary, and value packed. And your clients are already overwhelmed. They’ll gladly pay for you to take it off their plate.

Use it. Sell it. Build on it.

Let’s recap:

✅ Register Information Officers
✅ Submit PAIA annual reports
✅ Do it all from BizPortal
✅ Offer it as a client service
✅ Charge for your time and expertise

This is a reminder that being a Business Accountant in Practice today is about more than reconciliations and tax returns. It’s about protecting your clients’ reputations, helping them sleep at night, and growing your own practice with smart, practical advisory work.

So log in, explore the platform, and use this change to position yourself as the go-to expert your clients can’t do without.
