PPRA Introduces Global Property Management Certification to South Africa

The Property Practitioners Regulatory Authority (PPRA) has partnered with the Institute of Real Estate Management (IREM), based in the United States, to bring the globally recognised Accredited Residential Manager® (ARM®) certification to South Africa.

The ARM® designation is designed for early-career professionals in residential property management and aligns with international standards for ethical and effective management practices. This partnership offers South African property practitioners, particularly those who have completed the PPRA’s Principal Real Estate Agent qualification—an opportunity to distinguish themselves with an internationally respected credential.

The certification rollout builds on PPRA’s successful integration of IREM-developed content into its Continuing Professional Development (CPD) programme. More than 2,000 local practitioners have engaged with IREM’s online CPD modules, and over 200 attended a live CPD session in Johannesburg, presented by IREM-certified instructor Patrick Katabua.

This partnership enables our practitioners to attain a recognised international standard that enhances both local credibility and global mobility,
— Thato Ramaili, PPRA CEO

For accountants involved in residential property portfolios, this development offers a valuable opportunity to expand professional credentials, improve service offerings, and access global opportunities.

Key Takeaway for Accountants

If you advise on or manage residential property, consider how the ARM® certification could strengthen your practice, increase your market credibility, and help you stay ahead in a competitive field.
