LinkedIn Profile:
Jacqi Kruger is a Chartered Accountant (SA) and Registered Auditor, and the driving force behind Addfin Accountants. Growing up inside an accounting firm, she naturally gravitated toward helping SMEs thrive, combining technical excellence with hands-on support.
Under her leadership, Addfin has grown from a five-person team to a 25-person practice serving Pretoria’s SME market. Her success lies in personal connection, strategic planning, and a deep belief in mentorship, especially for young professionals entering the field.
What time do you usually wake up on weekends?
06:00 AM
Are you an early bird or a night owl?
Night Owl
How do you spend the first hour of your day?
I spend the first hour of my day with my baby, it’s a special way to start the morning.
What sparked your interest in accounting or finance?
I grew up in an accounting firm that worked closely with SMEs, so it’s always been part of my world. I really enjoy connecting with clients and being able to offer guidance that helps them succeed as entrepreneurs.
Can you share some career highlights and defining moments as an accountant for SMEs?
One of the biggest highlights has been watching our practice grow from just 5 staff members to 25 and counting. It’s been just as rewarding to see many of my clients experience similar growth in their own businesses.
How do you build strong relationships with your clients?
I build strong relationships with my clients through personal interaction and by making sure I'm available whenever they need support.
What are some future goals for your firm?
One of our key goals is to establish the firm as a trusted, go-to name for SMEs in the Pretoria market.
What’s next on your professional journey?
Right now, my focus is on maintaining strong relationships with my existing clients while also dedicating time to my growing family.
Share your strategies for maintaining balance between personal and professional life.
I rely on clear priorities and good time management to maintain balance. I’m a night owl, so I often get work done after my kids are asleep. I’d rather spend those two to three hours after work with them than give up that quality time.
What do you enjoy when you’re off the clock?
I enjoy spending quality time with my family and being actively involved in serving at my church.
How do you contribute to the development of others in your field?
Our firm has a mentorship system designed to support new trainee accountants. It gives them a chance to learn from the experience and guidance of the partners as they grow in their roles.
Are you involved in mentorship or local business initiatives?
Yes, but only within our own firm at the moment.
What advice would you give to someone aspiring to start their own accounting practice?
My advice is to go for it. Starting your own accounting practice takes a lot of hard work and can be stressful, but the rewards make it worthwhile. If possible, consider partnering with someone to share the responsibilities and challenges.
“Blessed to be a blessing”
Share your favourite leadership lesson as a firm owner.
One of my favorite leadership lessons is that people follow your actions, not just your words. When you lead by example and inspire others, they’ll naturally want to follow you.
What’s something surprising about you that isn’t in your professional bio?
Something surprising about me that isn’t in my business bio is that I’ve always loved animals and actually wanted to become a vet when I was a child.
If you could have any superpower to help you in your job, what would it be?
If I could have any superpower to help in my practice, it would be the ability to make time stand still.
What’s your go-to strategy for staying productive during tax season or busy periods? Any tips for keeping energy levels up?
My go-to strategy is proper planning, since it prevents last-minute stress. I don’t work well under heavy pressure, so I try to get as much done as possible before deadlines to stay on top of things.
If you could relive one day from your career, which day would it be and why?
The day I received my SAICA release letter stands out for me. After seven years of studying and learning, it marked the moment I achieved my goal of becoming a CA(SA). It was an incredible feeling, but also a bit daunting, after such a clear, structured path, it was now up to me to decide where to take my career next.
Today, Jacqi is focused on two things: growing her family and sustaining her client base with excellence. At work, she leads by example. At home, she finds balance in family time and faith.
Her firm’s mentorship model ensures new accountants don’t just get trained, they’re guided.
