Money Smart Week South Africa (MSWSA) 2026 will take place from 24 to 30 August 2026, with the national launch scheduled for 18 August. The campaign is led by the National Treasury, the Financial Sector Conduct Authority (FSCA) and the National Consumer Financial Education Committee (NCFEC).

Under the theme “Money Smart: The Power of Possible”, the campaign aims to promote financial literacy and consumer awareness through free, unbiased and non-commercial financial education. Activities will include workshops, webinars, community activations, media campaigns and other learning opportunities.

Why this matters for accountants

Money Smart Week provides accountants with an opportunity to play a more active role in financial education and consumer empowerment. Accountants are often trusted advisers to individuals, families and small businesses and can help clients better understand budgeting, financial planning, saving, managing debt and making informed financial decisions.

For accounting practices, the campaign also provides an opportunity to:

  • Educate clients by sharing practical financial literacy information.

  • Strengthen client relationships by demonstrating the broader value accountants can provide beyond compliance.

  • Support financial resilience, particularly among individuals and small businesses that may have limited access to financial advice.

  • Participate in webinars and educational activities offered during Money Smart Week.

  • Promote financial literacy within communities through workshops or other appropriate initiatives.

The campaign highlights that stronger financial knowledge, skills and confidence can help people manage their money, plan for the future, avoid financial pitfalls and achieve their financial goals.

Get involved

Accountants and accounting practices interested in participating can access information about the campaign, participating organisations and planned activities through the Money Smart Week South Africa website. The campaign is designed to bring together stakeholders from government, the financial sector, academia, civil society and consumer organisations to promote a more financially capable and informed society.

Money Smart Week is an opportunity to use their financial knowledge not only to meet compliance requirements, but also to help clients and communities make better-informed financial decisions.
