SARS Makes Reporting Tax Practitioners Easier
This article will count 0.25 units (15 minutes) of unverifiable CPD. Remember to log these units under your membership profile.
On 14 May 2026, SARS released a new step-by-step video showing taxpayers exactly how to report a tax practitioner for unprofessional conduct. It explains what counts as unprofessional behaviour, how to lodge a complaint, and what happens after a report is filed.
Anyone can report a tax practitioner. The process is straightforward. Complete the RUC001 form and email it to ReportingUnprofessionalConduct@sars.gov.za. SARS reserves the right to step in on behalf of the taxpayer.
What this means for you
If you are a registered tax practitioner, this raises the bar for the profession. It also gives clients a clear reason to choose someone who is properly registered and accountable.
If you are not registered, the spotlight just got brighter. Taxpayers now have a simple, official route to escalate when an unregistered practitioner gets it wrong.
SARS keeps an online database of registered tax practitioners. Use it to check your own status. Tell your clients to use it to check theirs.
