Unable to lodge a dispute on efiling

Member Query

I am unable to lodge a dispute on efiling using the dispute form. When i need to dispute a zero value it says: “Requested value cannot be greater as Dispute value. Please enter the amount you wish to be reflected on the account for the transaction.”

How can I proceed to lodge my dispute?

Our Response

SARS’s eFiling system does not currently allow to increase to a deduction that was reduced to R0 during an assessment. This is a system limitation, not a rejection of your objection.

In such cases, you’ll need to submit the objection manually as follows:

  1. Complete the ADR1 form (Notice of Objection) – available on the SARS website: https://www.sars.gov.za/individuals/what-if-i-do-not-agree/objections/

  2. State the reason, for example: “Unable to dispute a zero value as requested value cannot be greater as dispute value" but provide more specific detail on the what you need to change.

  3. Attach supporting documents, including the audit correspondence, assessment notice, and proof of the claim.

  4. Submit the ADR1 by either:

    • Email at contactus@sars.gov.za

    • Booking a SARS appointment electronically. After SARS issues a case number you’ll then upload the ADR1 in eFiling > SARS Correspondence > Upload Documents), or

    • Visiting a SARS branch by appointment and submitting it in person.

  5. Ensure the objection is lodged within 80 business days from the date of assessment.

The ADR1 cannot be filed directly through eFiling or SOQS, but SARS will accept it electronically once a case number has been created through the booking system.

For tax types excluding CIT, PIT, VAT and PAYE

You must use a manual process for all other taxes excluding CIT, PIT, VAT and PAYE, except for the specified CIT and VAT exceptions.  The dispute form to utilise is the online Notice of Appeal (ADR2 form), which must be submitted:
