Africa’s accounting future just got a major boost. The International Federation of Accoutants (IFAC), (the global voice of the profession) and Pan African Federation of Accountants (PAFA - Africa’s top accounting body) have secured a $1 million grant to grow public sector accountancy in Africa.

What’s the plan? Build stronger accountancy bodies in African countries, develop skilled public sector accountants, and improve how government finances are managed.

But that’s not all — at ACOA 2025 in Kigali, IFAC and PAFA doubled down on their partnership to fast-track the profession’s growth across the continent. They’re joining forces with top audit institutions to professionalise public sector accounting from the ground up.

Why SA Accountants Should Pay Attention

More investment in African accounting means more regional collaboration, more training opportunities, and a louder voice for the profession. It’s also a big signal that public sector accounting is becoming a serious space for career growth and impact.

Stay close to PAFA, join conversations, and be ready to lead change beyond our borders. Africa’s accounting evolution is underway — and SA should be part of the story.
