SARS has introduced an additional digital channel for individuals to register for Personal Income Tax. Taxpayers can now submit a registration request through the SARS Online Query System (SOQS), expanding the available options beyond existing registration channels.
The change follows an update to the SARS Online Query System External Guide, which now includes a dedicated “Register for Income Tax” service within the platform.
The SOQS platform is designed to allow taxpayers to interact with SARS online without needing to visit a branch or make a call centre enquiry. Through the system, individuals can submit queries, requests, and registrations directly via an online form and upload supporting documentation where required.
For individuals who are not yet registered taxpayers, the new service provides a simple way to initiate the Personal Income Tax registration process digitally, which may help reduce administrative delays and avoid the need for in-person appointments.
For accountants and tax practitioners, this update provides another practical channel to guide clients who still need to register for income tax, particularly where access to eFiling or branch services may be limited.
Individuals can access the service by submitting a request through the SARS Online Query System (SOQS) and selecting the “Register for Income Tax” option.
