SARS reported a major win against drug smugglers. On 3 September, a cargo ship was stopped near Durban’s coast, and officers found 25 bricks of high-quality cocaine hidden in refrigerated containers, worth about R56 million on the street.
The bust was part of a smart, joint operation involving local law enforcement and international partners, including Brazil. SARS Commissioner Edward Kieswetter praised the teamwork, saying it’s a big step in keeping drugs — and criminals — out of South Africa.
The drugs were handed over to SAPS for investigation and prosecution.
We applaud SARS for making our cities safer from drugs.
