New Biometric Facial ID Checks for VAT and PAYE

From 25 August 2025, SARS has rolled out enhanced facial recognition technology for added security when:
Registering for VAT and PAYE on eFiling
Updating Security Contact Details when a One-Time Pin (OTP) can’t be receive.
This aims to reduce fraud and ensure only authorised users can access SARS digital services.
How it works
To use facial authentication, you should:
Use a camera-enabled device.
Follow on-screen facial positioning prompts.
Once verified, complete your registration or update.
If verification fails, SARS will automatically create a case and may request supporting documents. Taxpayers without camera access can book an appointment at a SARS branch for help.
