As a senior finance professional and hands-on mom of two, she balances reconciliations, reporting, and real life. From passing her CIMA Strategic Case Study to dreaming of a future in photography, she proves that growth is both personal and professional.
Luané begins her day at 6:00 AM, with a focus on productivity and planning. A true night owl, she thrives in the quiet hours of the evening, often diving into creative projects.

Are you an early bird or a night owl?
Night Owl
How do you spend the first hour of your day?
Coffee, getting the kids dressed and ready for the day.
What sparked your interest in accounting or finance?
I was drawn to accounting because of the wide range of career opportunities it offers within both the accounting and broader finance sectors.
Can you share some key career milestones or defining moments?
Successfully completed my Strategic Case Study for CIMA.
What is your role within your company’s finance department?
I’m involved in all aspects of the finance function, from processing transactions and performing reconciliations to managing payroll, banking, and preparing management accounts.
How do you contribute to the overall financial strategy of the business?
I contribute by preparing monthly management accounts that provide clear insights into the company’s financial performance, supporting informed strategic decision-making.
What is one of the biggest challenges you’ve faced in your role? How did you overcome it?
One of the biggest challenges I’ve faced was needing to move between roles frequently due to personal circumstances. This taught me how to quickly adapt, learn new systems and processes, and remain flexible in ever-changing environments.
What tools or strategies do you use to manage the financial operations of the company effectively?
I currently use Sage Evolution to manage financial operations and have experience with a variety of other accounting software tools. Excel plays a key role in my day-to-day work, allowing me to analyze data and compare it against the company’s KPIs. I'm also fortunate to work alongside experienced directors whose guidance has been instrumental in helping me understand the business and manage its financial functions effectively.
Share your strategies for staying balanced, especially during busy periods.
Planning, planning, planning. It is super important to plan your day, keep a diary or to do list to track your tasks and completion. "Eating the elephant one bite at a time"
What do you enjoy outside of work?
As a mom to two little boys under the age of three, my time outside of work is fully devoted to them. In this season of life, motherhood is my full-time passion outside the office, it’s busy, rewarding, and keeps me on my toes!
Do you mentor or support other team members in the finance department?
While I don’t currently mentor anyone in an official capacity, I regularly offer guidance to team members, particularly when I see opportunities to help them complete tasks more efficiently and effectively.
What advice would you give to someone aspiring to work in a finance department?
Develop strong people skills, understanding professional etiquette for emails, remote meetings, in-person interactions, and teamwork is essential. Also, invest time in mastering Excel. As a student, I didn’t fully grasp its importance, but in every role, I’ve held, Excel has been a critical tool. Its capabilities are vast, and being proficient can significantly enhance your effectiveness in any finance role.
What’s your favourite quote or mantra that motivates you?
“You are your only limit.”
Share a leadership lesson or a piece of advice that’s been valuable to you in your career.
Everyone makes mistakes, but what truly matters is how you respond and what you learn from the experience. Growth often comes from how you handle setbacks.
What’s something surprising about you that isn’t in your professional bio?
I have a real passion for photography and hope to one day turn it into a side hustle or even a full-time career.
If you could have any superpower to help you in your job, what would it be?
If I could choose a superpower, it would be complete accuracy combined with the ability to see into the future, so I could anticipate financial trends and shifts in economic markets before they happen.
What’s your go-to strategy for staying productive during long workdays?
Time Management
If you could relive one day from your career, which day would it be and why?
Right now, the day I passed my Strategic Case Study for CIMA stands out, it marked the final academic step toward earning my CGMA designation. I'm currently submitting my experience, and I know the day I can officially add 'CGMA' after my name will be the most meaningful moment in my career. It will represent the reward for all the hard work and dedication I’ve put in.
