From the Ironman Arena to the Boardroom:

Jeanre Bosch doesn’t just talk discipline, he lives it. Up at 5am. Triathlete. Kickboxing national colours. Oh, and he built an entire finance department from scratch for a global company. He’s here to make finance fair, strategic, and human, because numbers without people are meaningless.

This is what it looks like when a finance pro leads with purpose, and punches through the status quo.

What time do you usually wake up on weekends?

05:00 AM

Are you an early bird or a night owl?

Early Bird

How do you spend the first hour of your day?

I usually start my morning with either meditation or a training session to set a focused and positive tone for the day.

What sparked your interest in accounting or finance?

My interest in accounting and finance came from my love for numbers, structure, and the sense of fairness that comes with ensuring everything balances and follows the rules.

Can you share some key career milestones or defining moments?

One of my key career milestones was establishing a new department for a well-known international company and developing it into a respected and high-performing division.

What is your role within your company’s finance department?

My role in the finance department involves ensuring that all company costs are managed efficiently and fairly.

How do you contribute to the overall financial strategy of the business?

I contribute to the company’s financial strategy by identifying gaps in internal controls and operational processes to ensure financial risks are properly managed. I also provide strategic input on major cost drivers in the financial statements, helping leadership make informed decisions that strengthen overall financial performance.

What is one of the biggest challenges you’ve faced in your role? How did you overcome it?

One of the biggest challenges I’ve faced is driving change in a large company that’s set in its ways. It’s still not easy, especially with the mix of generations across the business, but I’ve found that having ongoing conversations and introducing small, gradual changes helps create progress and growth—for the team and for myself.

What tools or strategies do you use to manage the financial operations of the company effectively?

I regularly evaluate the control environment to identify any weaknesses in financial operations. This proactive approach helps me spot inefficiencies and understand which processes are performing well. From there, I implement focused improvements to strengthen financial controls and boost overall efficiency.

Share your strategies for staying balanced, especially during busy periods

I stay balanced during busy periods by being intentional with how I use my time and where I focus my attention. As a father, husband, and Ironman athlete, I recognize that we all have the same 24 hours each day, so I make a conscious effort to spend them effectively. By being fully present in each moment—whether at work, with my family, or during training—I can manage my commitments while maintaining a healthy sense of balance.

What do you enjoy outside of work?

Outside of work, I enjoy staying active and exploring the world. I’m passionate about triathlons, which challenge both my body and mind, and I hope to compete in Kona one day.

Do you mentor or support other team members in the finance department?

I look for areas where my team shows interest in my work and, when I see their curiosity, I involve them more closely in the tasks. My goal is to help them develop skills to perform the role even better than I do, which benefits both the company and the team members, whether I’m present or not.

What advice would you give to someone aspiring to work in a finance department?

Never lose sight of the human side of the business. If you focus only on numbers, profits, and results, you risk overlooking the people behind them. Working in finance is about more than just money, it’s about understanding how your decisions impact others.

If you cant change the cards you are dealt, change the way you play them

Share a leadership lesson or a piece of advice that’s been valuable to you in your career

What got you to where you are today won’t necessarily get you to the next level. Never become too comfortable in your role, focus on improving a little bit every day.

What’s something surprising about you that isn’t in your professional bio?

Something people might find surprising is that I’ve earned South African colors in kickboxing.

If you could have any superpower to help you in your job, what would it be?

I wish I had a photographic memory, being able to recall all my cases and numbers instantly would make my job so much easier.

What’s your go-to strategy for staying productive during long workdays?

I use time blocking, 45 minutes of focused, uninterrupted work followed by 15 minutes for admin tasks.

If you could relive one day from your career, which day would it be and why?

I would relive the day I was announced as Head of Finance and Operations for a multinational company, it was a truly defining moment in my career.

Jeanre’s story isn’t just inspiring, it’s a reminder that you deserve a seat at the strategy table.
