Your clients' June returns are not due on 30 June. Tell them now, before they panic or, worse, submit incorrectly.
The Namibia Revenue Agency (NamRA) issued a public notice on 17 June 2026 confirming that all tax returns falling due on 30 June 2026 have been extended to 31 August 2026. The extension is a direct result of ongoing technical issues affecting the Integrated Tax Administration System (ITAS), which NamRA has been working to resolve since its Public Notice of 1 June 2026.
What has been restored on ITAS
NamRA confirmed that significant progress has been made. Functions now back online include bank statement loading and reconciliation, the Taxpayer Amnesty Programme (TAP), ASYCUDA data integration, and cash office reconciliation at the till. That said, some users are still experiencing intermittent slowness and delays in return processing. NamRA says its technical team is continuing to work toward full functionality.
What taxpayers need to know before they file
The extended deadline applies broadly, but there are specific requirements to keep in mind. Salary earners do not need to upload their PAYE certificates. That information is pre-populated by employers when they submit their returns. However, taxpayers must verify that the tax amounts deducted by their employers are correctly reflected on Schedule 17 before submitting. Consult the ITAS e-filing guidance for more information.
Taxpayers claiming deductions for pension fund contributions, annuity contributions, or study policy contributions must upload the relevant PAYE certificate from their fund administrator at the time of filing.
As noted in the recent Namibia Tax Update: What Your Clients Are Losing Sleep Over, ITAS system issues have been causing widespread confusion in 2026. Extensions have been granted, but many clients and practitioners are unsure what applies to them. This notice clears that up for June returns specifically.
What to do now
Contact your clients who have returns due 30 June and confirm the new deadline. Do not assume they have seen this notice. Check that salary earner clients are aware they need to verify Schedule 17 before submitting, and confirm that any clients claiming pension, annuity, or study policy deductions have the necessary documents from their fund administrators ready to upload.
This is also a good moment to review whether any of your clients have outstanding ITAS submissions from earlier in the year. As covered in NamRA's earlier guidance on ITAS return duplication, system issues have created confusion around submitted returns. Check client profiles before assuming filings are in order.
NamRA has apologised for the inconvenience and asked for patience while the system is fully restored.
